OUR STORY
Coils to Locs was founded by cancer survivor Dianne Austin and her sister Pamela, who lives with traction alopecia. During Dianne's chemotherapy treatment, they searched hospitals and medical hair loss salons nationwide for textured wigs that looked like the coily hair Dianne was losing. They found nothing. This gap in the market inspired them to create a specialized line of high-quality coily and curly synthetic wigs specifically designed for medical facilities serving Black women and others with textured hair experiencing hair loss.

WHY COILS TO LOCS WIGS
Patients are seeking out hair loss retailers who offer coily, curly wig alternatives
Wig Diversity
With 30 million American women affected by hair loss, medical retail spaces—particularly in hospitals—currently offer primarily straight-haired wig options, resulting in limited style variety.
Natural Wig Preferences
According to Mintel 40-70% of Black women have shifted from straightening their hair to wearing their hair natural (un-straightened), and those interested in wigs want wig styles that reflect their cultural preferences.
Cultural Wig Empowerment
Ethnically inspired wigs hold cultural importance for Black women beyond addressing hair loss. Black women outspend other demographics by 86% in the wig and weave market, according to Nielsen.
Hair Loss Stats
Almost 50% of Black women in the U.S. alone are living with some form of medical/non-medical hair loss. (We currently do not have data available for the Canadian market)
