“Prayers and Faith”, Kalia’s Cancer Journey

Posted by Pamela Shaddock on

How did you learn that you have cancer? How did you come to terms with your diagnosis?

I learned I had cancer in 2017 a little after I found out I was pregnant with my now 3 year old daughter. It was a very difficult situation at first because I had to decide on my life or hers. I was not willing to terminate my pregnancy. I felt that was a selfish decision. Prayers and my faith got me through tough times.

What surprised you most about your experience with cancer?

My strength and the compassion that my son showed me gave me fighting power. Some days I just didn’t want to do anything but the looks and the needs of my children overturned my depression.

What did you learn from this experience or what advice do you have that will be helpful for others faced with a similar journey?

Don’t give up. Thank the Lord for your experience. Smile when you feel like crying and when you have those bad days don’t stay down. And it’s ok to be vulnerable people really care for you and will support you.
